Australia: 1 year Working Holiday Visa

 "Down under".

I was on a AirAsia flight on the way

  to Melbourne from Thailand,

looking forward to continue my journey

into a full Australian summer time.

As you might know, Australia has opposite seasons, compare to Europe, which it means during our winter time basically is summer time for them.

It was the 10th of November, so, the begin of summer.

We landed around 19.00 o' clock where the cabin crew staff opened the airplane's door

and a blow of cold air came in.

"Yo! wait! Are we in Australia? Shouldn't be summer time?" I said to a guy seat next to me.

"Welcome to Melbourne bro, the city where a day has four season".

My eyes popped out.

I was super tan wearing a t-shirt, short pants and a pair of flip flop on my feet, a holiday looking guy

that have been in Thailand for a month!

I went out, at the bus/taxi area, where a thermometer showed 17  degrees...

I couldn't believe that. No, no, no, no! I wanted the summer time! But what could i do?!

I asked info about time and prices to reach the city, hopefully, as soon as i could, as i were in need to buy appropriate clothes as i had just summer clothes with me.

I was freezing outside waiting in the queue when a girl right next to me asked where i had to go.

"Melbourne city! And that is my hostel, do you know where it is?" i said.

"Sure, i'm going in that way too, let's share the taxi is cheaper like that".

She was a doctor from Queensland traveling in Melbourne for work.

We talked for the all ride when finally we reached my place at first, where she left with a:

"That's my address and phone number, you are welcome to visit me in Queensland if you'd like to,

and no worries about the taxi fare, that's my present to welcome you inAustralia, actually, my company

pay for everything".

I didn't know what to say honestly. She made my day.

I got into the hostel, where were full of travelers, from everywhere.

Somebody were playing ping pong, some where cooking or eating, and someone else were just chill

on the couch listening music.

After the check-in i left the backpack in my room and went in Bourke street, the shopping area, where

i bought few pants and jumpers.

The weather didn't seems that cold after shopping!

I made it, i was in Melbourne,

a new city where a new life was about to began.

Life started pretty well in Melbourne:

I met these bunch of guys at the hostel, where we started to hang out all together

creating a beautiful "family" where when Christmas came we celebrated all together,

with a BBQ in St. Kilda, where also for most of us were the first time spend the Christmas

at the beach with forty degrees. Nice and weird.

Oh yeah of course, summer came.

I also found a job pretty quick in a Mexican restaurant, as a bartender, in Brunswick East,

where the owner was a funny, half Italian and half Australian, guy.

After i got my first salary  i moved out from the hostel, where i was sharing the room with eight people,

to move in a apartment in the city.

Friends, a well paid job, a room in a sharing apartment in the centre of the city of Melbourne, in Collins street.

Everything was perfect.

Few months passed and a feeling of confusion came, i felt weird and i couldn't understand why.

Melbourne didn't make me feel good anymore and after few considerations, i thought, i needed a change.

I decided to move in Sydney and start a new journey over there.

A new journey was about to began, again.

After i landed in Sydney i got the train to reach the city and then the hostel i booked.

Once i arrived at the hostel, in King's Cross, i understood why was so cheap.

A old and messy hostel. Never mind.

After checked-in i went to wander around the city. Sydney was beautiful!

But still, that feeling of confusion didn't want to leave.

After a week actually i realized i didn't want to stay in Australia anymore, but still unknowing why,

i just knew i was too confuse.

I wanted to book a ticket to fly back home and take rest from that trip.

I tried to book it three times and all of them didn't went true.

Maybe was a sign that i had to stay, and that's what i did.

I found a job in North Sydney in a nice restaurant as a bartender, made new friends and find an accommodation in the city, in Pyrmonth.

I was happy that i didn't leave Sydney, because finally it has been a great and meaningful experience for me.

Life were going well in Sydney even if that feeling still came back sometimes. I missed something i guess.

Six months have flown and the time to leave Australia came as my Working Holiday Visa ended.

Sad to say goodbye to everybody, i was on my way back home.

After a long flight here i am again back in Italy,

Being in the other side of the world for one year far away from family and friends it was tough,

and that made me appreciate to be back.

  I don't know why

i've been attracted that much by Asia,

Back in the days i was much more attracted by America like New York where the hip hop born or by Cali, the sunshine happy land, where i actually i've been there before.

And a fun fact is that i tried to apply for an American Visa while i was in London but the only option was a student visa which was too expensive at that time for me, that's why i decided to go in Australia,

as i knew that the economy were pretty good and a Working Holiday Visa was much more easier and cheaper.

"After i collected enough money i will apply for an American student visa" That was the plan,

but that trip on the way to Australia, where in some way the fate brought me in Asia first, let me forgot about the America plan.

All the money i saved in Australia for that plan, are gone in those 9 months all around Asia.

I would do it again and again.

Plans change and life sometimes is strange.

Everything is made it to let us reach our right path,

or at least i like to believe it.
