How to get to Ayutthaya from Bangkok
Located 85 km to the north of Bangkok, Ayutthaya, is not hard to get to. I went to Ayutthaya by a Ordinary Train, for 15 THB (0,40 €)
leaving from Bangkok's Hua Lamphong Station to Ayutthaya Station taking two hour and a half.

Train is the best option.
Comfortable and cheap,
with stunning view of the
countrysides and rices paddies
Other trains available are:
Rapid train are a bit faster then the ordinary - 45 THB (1,20 €)
Express train is not faster just more comfortable - 165 THB (4,50 €)
Special express DRC are the fastest but most expensive - 345 THB (9,50 €)
If you do not have much time but absolutely you don't want miss the visit at Ayutthaya, another option is Taxi, that will let you save time,
reaching Ayutthaya in less then one hour.
For a one way ride the fare is about 1500 BHT (40 €).
This is a good solution if you are a bunch of guys as that can let you
split the fare.
Once you reach Ayutthaya station, jump on a Tuk Tuk , yeah they are everywhere, for 60 BHT (1,50 €) will drive you at the
Ayutthaya Historical Park.
The ruins of the Historical Park
Honestly, i even didn't know the existence of Ayutthaya before i was leaving home on the way to Thailand. I promised to myself to go on a
solo trip based on a daily adventure, without get any info before. I wanted an "old school" adventure, getting know places of interest by
word of mouth from other traveller.
I heard about Ayutthaya form a Spanish guy that suggested me to must visit it.
Once i got there i was amazed
from what i was seeing.

Getting around
To get around ruins, i rented a bike for 50 BHT (1,30 €) for the day.
I suggest to do not rent a bike form the Ayutthaya Station as is not behind the corner.
Thailand is pretty hot and humid especially if you are here in summer time, so, it would take a big effort to cycle from the station to all the sites.
There are several bike rent all way long the Historical Park.

Cycling is safe
with several paths between the sites.
Another option is a Tuk-Tuk, as i said at How to get at Ayutthaya from Bangkok, outside the train station there are
several Tuk-Tuk that will drive you at the park for 60 BHT (1,60 €) or you can also hire them for few hours driving around all the places
of interest for 500 BHT (13,50 €)

How many days you should spend
in Ayutthaya

Most of tourist choosing to do a back and forth trip, from Bangkok, dedicating a half day to Ayutthaya.
As i was on my way, up to north to Chiang Mai, Ayutthaya was on the way so i decided to spend there one day and one night to
fully enjoy the ancient city.
Ayutthaya offer during the day time all the historical site excursions and at night time a vibrant night market get alive next the Ayutthaya Historical Park where most of the locals are reunited and the food is delicious!
The view of the ruins at sunset is breathless !
Where to stay in Ayutthaya
If you are on a low budget trip like me, there are several guesthouse/hostel all around the Ayutthaya Historical Park.
I stayed at The Sixty at Ayutthaya, a nice and comfortable Guest House where the owner is a super kind lady.
At the time i paid 250 BHT for one night (7 €), where i expect a dormitory room, instead i had my own room with private bathroom,
spacious and clean. No complains.
The guest house was near by walking distance for all needs: Shops, cafè, bike rent and the night market.

The Guest house facing the
Ayutthaya Historical Park
with the ruins view... Stunning.

When to visit Ayutthaya
Ayutthaya is hot and humid
the all year round.
I've been there in the middle of October and it was a beautiful sunny day under 34 degrees. Probably i've been lucky enough as in that period,
Thailand, is still under the rainy season, running until the whole month of October. November might be cooler and better choice.
Even if i do love be in the sun like a lizard, trust me Thailand is really hot! Remember to keep hydrated,
and avoid long exposure to the sun.
