Phuket, Surrounded by the Andaman sea located one hour plane from Bangkok, this island is a piece of paradise with beautiful views, temples, markets and much more, but many visitors associate Phuket only to Patong where the night life is concentrated.

Patong is not Phuket, at least not only!

Best time to visit Phuket

IMG_3423.JPG

Phuket is an all year round holiday destination

I've been in Phuket at the end of October when the rainy season haven't finished yet and personally i loved that kind of

weather as usually downpour daily in the early evening with most of the day sunny and pleasant. Personally that was the best time

for me, as i could enjoy my time at beach during the day and refresh from the heat by the evening, also hotels and travels rates are lower.

If you’re not a fan of crowds avoid January and February

as these are peak travel months for Phuket but at least is a great time to meet like minded travelers.

How to move around

IMG_3375_edited.jpg

As most of the islands all around the world

the public transportation is always a big problem as

the frequency is not like the cities.

Scooter is the best option to move around the island. At Patong area, which is the most touristic area indeed, there are severals scooter rent. Please, discover Phuket all around, would be a shame do not visit what this incredible island has to offer by staying the all time in Patong.

For 200 THB (5 €)  per day you gonna have your own scooter and you can easily ride up to the hills to enjoy the amazing view at sunset and visit the most beautiful beaches around the island.

How to get to Phuket

IMG_3438.JPG

  Phuket has the huge advantage

of having its own international airport

which make it easy to reach the island.

From Chiang Mai or Bangkok in less then one hour flight, usually Air Asia offers low cost regular flights to Phuket.

One of the thousand reason why i love Thailand is because is really well organized, direction are clear and people are helpful even if their English is not at the best.

I remember a guy that was working at the Phuket airport accompanied me to the bus stop after i tried to explain where i was staying with my accommodation. So kind!

So, once i reached the bus limousine area i got my ticket and a minivan picked up me and other customers bringing us at each accommodation.

Crazy right!? Like having a taxi service but with a bus price. 150 THB  (4 €) taking  45 min.

Beaches in Phuket

IMG_9393_edited.jpg

  Phuket is known for

  its outstanding beaches,

  probably more than anything else.

Most of the beaches are located on the East side of the island where

the body sea is calm with a little bit of wave movement as the west coast

is facing a protected bay.

Differently from the East coast, the West coast  has few beaches but are facing the open ocean where is mostly windy and  the wave are stronger

from the force of the monsoon.

With over 30 beaches around the island, there’s a wide variety of atmospheres, scenery and even textures of sand available. However, with such a huge amount of choice, the question of which is the best beach in Phuket is inevitable.

Of course i couldn't visit all of them.

Here the beaches i've visited  from the east coast:

Paradise Beach

IMG_3366_edited.jpg

Paradise Beach is just 4 kilometers from Patong and

has two small sandy bays with blue water.

There are restaurant and bars around where parties are also hosted, like the Phuket Full Moon Party.

I do suggest you to bring a bottle of water and some fruit with you as the prices are extremely high.

For a bottle of water they charged me 60 BHT (1,60 €)  considering that i purchased a train ticket from Bangkok to Ayutthaya for 15 THB!

Paradise beach  it's small, remote and not easy to find as it's located to a downhill not accessible on your own, unless, by the time, they built

a road or footpath. I remember that i arrived at a large parking, and from there a shuttle took me to the beach. All free.

Definitely a must visit beach!

Patong Beach

IMG_3414_edited.jpg

  Golden sand and probably

the most famous beach in Phuket.

Not the most beautiful beach i've ever seen before for sure but with the kind of charm that will catch you in someways.

Nowhere else in Phuket there are many attractions or restaurants like this area and for those into nightlife, Patong Beach is the centre

of the main action.

Personally i loved the beach, it’s certainly busy, but is a large beach long three kilometers and has a great atmosphere during t

he sunset time. Is interesting to see how Patong Beach change from day to night.

Personally i recommend to spend some time at Patong beach, to move then, into quiet beaches the next days.

Kamala Beach

IMG_3437_edited.jpg

North of Patong, Kamala beach, has

a quieter stretch of sand with a more relaxed feel.

A large road coming down from Patong Beach passes through Kamala Beach, a small and nice beach with clear waters.

Some people described Kamala beach as a place more for family and couples, and actually i felt it was like that.

I didn't mind anyways. I was there for relax after all. I met some funny locals and few guys from Germany  that got burnt from the sun

like two sausage. Pale skin guys...

Beside the beach, theres a road full of restaurant with reasonable prices, where i had one of the best pineapple fried rice. Yummy.

Kamala Beach is definitely a spot you wouldn't miss.

Ya Nui Beach

IMG_3405_edited.jpg

Phuket'sBest view at Promthep Cape

Ya Nui Beach lies in the shadow of one

of Phuket's best viewpoints: Phrom Thep Cape.

It's a charming little cove where the sand is beautifully soft, that i actually discovered casually by visiting the Promthep Cape where i went to enjoy the spectacular view of the island, but i will talk about that later in the next article.

Before to discover this beach i didn't know actually Ya Nui Beach is one of Phuket’s smallest beaches, and is popular for its size.

If you are on the way to Promthep Cape then, ow you know you can also chill on a beach too on the same excursion day.

Across the road, opposite the beach, there are few local restaurant.

Prom thep Cape is the spot where you gonna have

one of the best view of Phuket.

Located in the South side of the island, Prom Thep Cape, in a clear sunny day gift you with a stunning view. Unfortunately i got rain that day when i went, but didn't matter as still it was a great spot to admire. What mother nature created there is something incredible.

Definitely worth the visit, also, as one of the most photographed spot of the island for the view itself in fact.

Every day tour buses, scooter and private cars driving through Rawai Beach and up to the hill to enjoy the view.

The Prom Thep Cape has also the Lighthouse Museum. Interesting spot where you can go up at the outdoors viewing balcony,

where in a clear day, you can see the near Phi Phi Island.

Beside the view  there is the Brahama Elephant Shrine and some stalls and restaurants around the area.

Phuket Night life

patng
thailand-phuket-the-entrance-of-Bangla-R

  Phuket is worldwide famous

  for the colorful night life

While most of the area of the island has the own small party scene, the place

to be after the sun goes down is Bangla Road in Patong, as i mentioned before for the all time, eheh.

Bangla Road appears with bright neon lights, loud music all over the road with Go-Go bars, ladyboy cabaret shows, clubs and discos where live band  and international Dj's are hosted.

This is the place for party lovers

  and surprisingly for families too.

I saw many families around as actually the area doesn't offer just clubs and bars, but also restaurants, night market and

some spot for kids entertainment.

Walking thought Bangla Road is kinda challenging as all the PR from bars and clubs are fighting between each other to get as much customers as they can to their side, so you will get stop every 10 seconds with special drink promotion or free entry clubs.

Your hands will be full of flyers and stamps at the end of the road.

Phuket night life is something you have to experience on your skin at least once even if you are not a party lover.

A little party never killed nobody right?
